TO PHOTOBOOTH OR NOT TO PHOTOBOOTH

Unsure whether to incorporate a photobooth? We will convince you why you SHOULD ...

Photos are a foundational part of any wedding. I can distinctly remember pouring through photo albums from my parents wedding and using these special glimpses to form a picture of the day and the people there, but perhaps a photobooth is something you haven’t considered yet, and you’re wondering ‘Is it really worth it?’ Join Western Australia Wedding & Bride’s Belinda Coleman on a journey to discover whether the photobooth is a fad or a must have.

As I plan my own wedding, alongside working for a bridal magazine, it feels like there’s endless ideas, options, and decisions to be made about everything big, small, and anywhere in between. Perhaps a photobooth feels like just another decision to be made. Unsurprisingly though, I’m here to tell you that it isn’t. But stay tuned, the reasons might surprise you. If I think about many of the special events I’ve been to over the years, the photobooths have stood out, as much for the novelty, as for the ability to bring people together in fun and natural ways.

PHOTOBOOTH VS PHOTOGRAPHER

Unsurprisingly, a photobooth cannot replace professional photography taken at your wedding. You will still want a good photographer to capture the special moments of your day. And if you’re not sure where to find a photographer, I recommend turning back a couple of pages and taking a look at some of the experts we have available. What photobooths can do, however, is bring a whole new energy to your photos. Photobooths move the guests at your wedding from mere spectators to content creators. This means that some of the pressure is off the photographer to capture all of your guests in candid moments, meaning that they can focus more on capturing the footage you really want. It also means you have a whole other perspective on your day that you can enjoy after. When you spend time going through the photo album of your wedding, you’ll be able to see snapshots into the guest experiences of the day. A photobooth will give you a whole new experience of your wedding day. And it will be an absolute favourite with your guests as well, making the better question not “Why have a photobooth” but “Why not have a photobooth?!” And honestly, I can’t think of a single good reason.

THE RIGHT PHOTOBOOTH

Once you’ve settled the question of whether to have a photobooth at your wedding, the next question is what photobooth to have at your wedding. There are so many different options. Vintage ones, digital ones, printer ones, big ones, small ones, indoor ones, outdoor ones. Do they do still photos, video, audio, or maybe even the rare 360 degree ones. There are so many different options! Ultimately though, it comes down to the feel of your wedding and the vibe you’re going for. On the next page you’ll find the JustForKik’s photobooth company. They, like many photobooth companies, have a whole range of different photobooths, from stunning outdoor caravan and tent options to a range of open and closed indoor booths. It’s all about the vibe. Once you decide on your venue and colours, start looking at the different options available and considering exactly what you want from a photobooth. Is it a vintage one with the four panel photo print, is it a fun background? Do you have an outdoor wedding, and as such what vibe do you want? You have a LOT of options.

GETTING IT CUSTOM

Most photobooths will come with their own set of props, but if you want to make the event extra special you could consider making it truly your own. Things like custom signs or even neon light signs with your name on it could make for awesome backdrops. Some of these you may be able to customise with your chosen vendor. Others you might have to hunt further afield but it could make your photobooth feel even more considered for your day.
There may be props that feel very fitting to you as a couple as well. Ones that relate to your favourite movies, songs, or books. Consider props that might tie into your first date or the place you got engaged. You could even include a chalkboard for people to write you messages and take photos with them.
The options are endless. It ultimately comes down to what you want your wedding to feel like. At the end of the day, absolutely get a photobooth! They’re fun for you and your guests and they will keep your night as a time capsule, with many storing the pictures in a chronological album giving you so many special memories after the day. One day it could be your kids looking through the wedding album and reconstructing your special day. And they’ll know that Mum and Dad had a blast.
