THE BAR MAKING MEMORIES LAST

Jasmin Blackwell, owner and cocktail slinger of The Vintage Bar, explains how it's the perfect addition to any wedding ...

A wedding showpiece should do more than simply look beautiful. It should serve a purpose. It should have a touch of personality. It should reflect you as a couple. But what truly ticks every box? Join Western Australia Wedding & Bride’s Alice O’Brien as she discusses with Jasmin Blackwell, owner and lead cocktail slinger of The Vintage Bar, about how her repurposed truck has become the perfect addition to any wedding.

With its deep red finish, timber bar fit-out and a whole lot of charm, this fully resorted 1965 Bedford truck sits at the heart of The Vintage Bar. Behind the wheel is Jasmin Blackwell and her husband (though, as she jokes, he’s technically the one with the truck licence). Together with their experienced team of bar tenders, the pair provide a premium mobile bar service for events and weddings. But The Vintage Bar offers more than just this. It’s its own visually striking centrepiece, making it a wedding day highlight for all.
“We have a six-tap hybrid chiller beer system, on board refrigeration, built in sound system, digital tv display and even a dishwasher,” Blackwell explains.
Beyond this impressive setup, what sets The Vintage Bar apart is its ability to seamlessly blend into every wedding.
“It’s classic and classy, vintage and funky and most of all fun and unique.”
“All of our packages include a personalised menu on our digital tv display … I work with the clients to match this to their colour scheme, theme or invites and we also have a few options for clients or their florist to include styling items onto the bar,” Blackwell explains.
Every wedding deserves little moments of joy, little moments of fun and little moments that are a bit different, making the day feel distinctly yours. The Vintage Bar does just that. As Blackwell explains, the bar is used mainly during “pre-dinner drinks, just after speeches, when the dancefloor opens and then whenever you start doing cocktails,” making it a consistent presence throughout the celebration. Bars may be commonplace at weddings, so why not make the bar setup worthy of the memory?

LET’S TALK DRINKS

A mobile bar differs from a traditional bar in more ways than one, and it’s not just because it can literally drive away at the end of the night. One of the most important differences comes down to choice.
“Our clients can choose their own menu, they are not tied into any one package … they can choose whatever they desire, we are there to help them with suggestions and quantities,” Blackwell says.
This freedom allows couples to reflect their personalities through their drink selections, rather than defaulting to standard house wines or sprits. Blackwell notes how special this is, as it encourages couples to stay true to themselves in these choices and “create a drinks list that they want.” Her advice also challenges the traditional cocktail hour to “have them later in the night when you and your partner can actually enjoy them too.” This thoughtful, couple-first approach is at the core of The Vintage Bar experience. With a team of one to two staff, in either a uniform of black branded t-shirts or white button up shirts and aprons, the service feels more than premium, but personal. It’s due to the careful pre-work and consultation the team undertakes to understand each couple.

FAMILY TIES BEHIND THE WHEEL

The Vintage Bar’s connection to Western Australia (WA) runs deeper than simply being based there. The Bedford truck started its life as a firetruck in Nannup, serving the community through fire season. From there it moved into farming life in Albany. As a Bedford, it naturally carries a rich thread of agricultural history and roots to the land, including playing a reliable and key role in rural transport. This is something which resonates strongly with guests who understand the importance Bedford trucks played in transportation connection across WA.
“There’s rarely a wedding where we don’t have someone check the old girl out.”
“They tell us their stories of how they used these on their properties or how their grandad or dad had one growing [up], it’s an amazing way to connect with our clients and we love that we could be a part of their trip down memory lane,” Blackwell says.
That sense of connecting is central to everything The Vintage Bar represents. Being part of a wedding and helping create lasting memories for couples and their guests is an honour that doesn’t go unnoticed, as Blackwell says, “our goal is always to just create the most enjoyable day possible.”

This commitment goes beyond serving drinks, from being a dress bustler to the cake cutter or whatever is needed, the team is ready to lend a hand. It’s not just a mobile bar serving drinks. It serves a lending, familiar hand and a warm presence. A bar is an expected part of most weddings, often included as part of the venue or package. But too often, it can feel impersonal and disconnected from the overall experience. If you are going to have a bar at your wedding, your wedding deserves more than the standard options. You deserve a bar that reflects who you are through the drink selection, the atmosphere it creates and the staff behind it. The Vintage Bar offers every element from exceptional service to creating the memorable visual finishing touch to your day.
